Perlan or “The Pearl” in english, is a landmark building in Reykjavik located at the top of Öskjuhlíð. It was designed by Ingimundur Sveinsson and reaches a whopping height of 25.7 metres (84.3 ft).
Fun facts about The Pearl, the hill where The Pearl is located used to store hot water storage tanks for decades, you can take a walk on the tanks and enjoy a great 360 view over Reykjavik. The Pearl has 10,000 cubic meters of exhibition space on the ground floor known as the Winter Garden. It has hostated many concerts by many Icelandic artists the likes of GusGus, Emilíana Torrini and many others.
Things to do at The Pearl, The Gourmet Shop is a great place if you want to buy a variety of foods the likes of, oysters, langoustine, world jams and beef fillets, wild game fowl and smoked salmon.The Souvenir Shop sells cards, statues, T-shirts, postcards, Viking helmets, wool sweaters and original Icelandic art. They also have a wonderful Christmas Shop which is open all year round, they sell items such as the statues of the Icelandic Julelads, Christmas tree decorations and other Christmas stuff. They also have a lovely cafeteria which sells coffee, cakes and ice-cream. You should also check out the revolving restaurant and cocktail bar at the top floor.
